As Chair of the Department of Music and Theatre at Blackburn College, he inherited a program marked for closure and built it into a thriving, student-centered curriculum that blends practical skills with artistic growth. He collaborates closely with students to craft individualized career paths, selects productions around their interests, and develops innovative solutions to ensure engagement and investment.

There are so many ways to work in music! By systematically guiding students through introspection, imagination, and exploration while providing real world work experiences, Joseph Welch believes we can set them up for meaningful careers in music. The curriculum at Blackburn College, paired with its one-of-a-kind student managed work program, creates the perfect incubator for students to graduate ready to enter the workforce.

Adaptation is an essential component of being a vital music educator. Joseph Welch believes we can build resilient studios and schools through decentered leadership, allowing students to co-create experiences with us while increasing stakeholders in the community.

bunker hill education foundation
Joseph Welch was elected president of the Bunker Hill Education Foundation in June 2025. In the first year of his leadership, the organization developed mission and vision statements, clarified policies and procedures, and launched new brand imaging. The Foundation funds scholarships, classroom grants, and the Wall of Honor.
